Is a rejection email too much to ask for?

originally from my bearblog.dev site (unpublished)

I think it's safe to assume that if you haven't heard back from an employer after applying for a job weeks ago, it's game over. But I'd always appreciate a response - automated, even - to let me know that that's the case. It's deflating to send in something that you put a lot of effort into, only to receive radio silence in return. Even if I'm applying to a bunch of companies (and not hearing back from some is guaranteed), there is just an itch in my brain that requires being told a version of "sorry, it's not moving forward." Your recruitment platform probably has an option to send out emails if an application is rejected/a job posting is filled; use it and let me know, okay? Let me do a bit of cleaning house/wiping the slate clean. Don't make me do additional mental gymnastics.
